Rare Signatures of Oxford University Winning Boat Race Crew 1937. A rare sheet with all of the original hand signed signatures of the 1937 winning Oxford Boat Race crew. Oxford won by three lengths in a time of 22 minutes 39 seconds, securing their first victory since the 1923 race. The crew as follows: M G C Ashby, 12. 4; D M de R Winser, 12. 0; R R Stewart, 13. 0; R G Rowe, 12.11; J P Burrough, 13. 7; J D Sturrock, 14. 4; J C Cherry, 13. 11; A B Hodgson, 12. 2; Cox G J P Merrifield, 7.11. Oxford's boat contained four former Blues, including David Michael De Rueda Winser who was also making his third appearance in the Boat Race. Oxford's number six Jan Sturrock won a silver medal at the 1936 Summer Olympics in the Men's coxless fours. His crew-mate John Cherry rowed in the Men's eight for Great Britain in the 1936 Games, finishing fourth, he was killed in action in 1943 whilst serving in the Royal Navy during World War II. Excellent condition with very clear ink signatures. Sheet measures 18cm by 23cm.
