Ackermann's Series of National Steeple Chasrs, "The Dublin 1856,Leap the 9th Rail-Bank and Artificial Ditch 18 Feet" an original hand coloured aqatint published by "Ackermann's 96 Strand London June 15th 1856". Designed and engraved by Charles Hunt. In small print below the scene, each jockey is identified by name, colour of jacket and the horse he is riding. Below the title is printed "Columbine leading, Hasty following, The Lea and Seventy-four clearing in good style, Arthur refusing, Lottery, Nun, Gerry and Valentine bringing up the rear." Original Hogarth frame with gilded running pattern and black laquer and glazed. Aqatint measures 57cm by 47cm and frame 69 by 59cm. Rudolph Ackermann (1764-1834) was a German-born inventor, bookseller, lithographer and publisher. He was born in Stollberg (Saxony, Germany) as the son of a saddler.
